Come avvenuto oltre dieci anni fa, numerose gazze marine sono state osservate in questo inverno lungo le coste di Liguria e Toscana, quasi sempre in volo distanti dalla coste. Purtroppo un certo numero sono state raccolte ormai prive di vita. La specie in Italia è normalmente sporadica e su questa presenza straordinaria si possono fare solo ipotesi.
