Frattura Vecchia è una frazione del Comune di Scanno, nel Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo. Il piccolo borgo, sito a circa 1260 metri sul livello del mare, sembra abbia preso il nome dalla “frattura” che in epoca preistorica interessò il monte Genzana e formò il Lago di Scanno. Il borgo ha origini antiche: menzionato già nei manoscritti del diciassettesimo secolo con il nome di “Castello dei Numi”, la sua origine risale probabilmente al 1106, datazione più antica presente nel paese, scolpita su un antico reliquiario della chiesa. All'epoca del sisma della Marsica del 1915 la popolazione era composta da circa 350 abitanti; il borgo antico è andato distrutto, il centro nuovo fu ricostruito a valle, sicché oggi i due paesi sono denominati Frattura Vecchia e Frattura Nuova. Oggi il borgo di Frattura Vecchia non è più abitato ed è costituito da circa 75 fabbricati, di cui 45 apparenti a Sextantio (4126 mq). L'abitato si sviluppa intorno ad un piazzale in cui è collocata una fontana del 1834 e da cui si diramano quattro vicoli principali denominati: Castello, La Portazza, Zeppe di pietre, Campo di Fiore. All'ingresso del borgo è situata la piccola chiesa di San Nicola. Una torre diroccata sovrasta il borgo nel punto più alto del colle, da cui è possibile ammirare il Lago di San Domenico, il Lago di Scanno, i monti dell'Appennino Abruzzese e i borghi incasellati circostanti.
