Grande monachella delle zone aride di Nordafrica, rara in Israele e Giordania, dal dorso grigio, con becco forte e ali corte. Copritrici alari con frange chiare, coda larga con fascia terminale marrone scuro. Base della coda e parte inferiore del groppone color cannella chiaro. Il maschio ha faccia e gola nere e dorso grigio più scuro rispetto alla femmina che ha testa color cannella. Costruisce il nido nelle tane dei roditori in pianure desertiche o semidesertiche. Principalmente insettivora, predilige cavallette, formiche e scorpioni. Migratrice a corto raggio, in Marocco si sposta a sud durante l'inverno.
