Dal sedicesimo al diciottesimo secolo : il fatto di avere un castello fortificato e la relativa vicinanza ai confini con la Francia costarono a Barge lo sgradito interessamento dei potenti eserciti di allora francese e spagnolo. La peste del 1630/31 ne decimò la popolazione , nel 1690 fu saccheggiata dalle truppe del generale Catinat per poi essere conquistata da Napoleone . Il diciottesimo secolo fu periodo di emigrazione per i bargesi , specialmente verso l'Argentina , all'epoca Barge e circondario contavano circa 7000 abitanti .
