Ogni Induista, almeno una volta nella sua vita, deve essersi recato a Varanasi e qui deve immergersi nel sacro fiume Gange almeno da 5 diversi ghats. Ogni mattina all'alba, gli Indù iniziano a compiere dai ghats le proprie abluzioni. Ogni Induista desidera che le proprie ceneri vengano sparse nel Gange, perciò le pire per la cremazione ardono 24 ore su 24.
