La seconda Campata della Chiesa Superiore del Monastero di San Benedetto è un ambiente più antico rispetto alla Prima Campata e lo dimostra la volta, molto più bassa e priva di costoloni. C'è chi lo ritiene il nucleo originario della costruzione, in seguito ampliata con la Prima Campata, molto più alta, dalla quale lo separava il muro, successivamente abbattuto e sostituito con l'arco, al di sopra del quale, nella controparete, è dipinta la “Crocifissione”. Gli affreschi, che riempiono tutti gli spazi, sono attribuiti a pittori di Scuola Umbro-Marchigiana, che vi operarono sin dai primi anni del 1400. Nella parete di fondo, in un affresco molto deteriorato, è rappresentato “San Benedetto in cattedra”, con abiti pontificali, insieme a santi e a membri della famiglia Anicia. Nella parete a sinistra sono tre affreschi: “San Benedetto tentato dal diavolo”, “San Benedetto che rotola fra le spine” e “San Benedetto che prega nella grotta”. Nella lunetta, vicino all'ingresso, si vede, a destra, “Il miracolo del veleno” e a sinistra “La guarigione del monaco indemoniato”, opere di mano diversa rispetto alle altre descritte, che presentano figure di scarsa plasticità, in ambienti architettonicamente curati, ma scarsamente prospettici. Nelle vele della volta, rappresentate in questo mio scatto sono dipinti “San Mauro”, “San Gregorio Magno”, “San Romano”, “San Martino” e, al centro, “L'Agnello”.
