Corona è una frazione del comune di Massa d'Albe, alle pendici del monte Velino, in provincia dell'Aquila. L'8 giugno 1795, mentre non si prevedeva pioggia, improvvisamente apparve sull'orizzonte una nuvoletta che subito s'ingrandì e si sciolse in calma pioggerellina cui, senza essere preceduto da altri, inaspettatamente si udì un forte tuono e l'immediata caduta di un fulmine sulla chiesa parrocchiale. Tal fatto avvenne in circostanze veramente prodigiose. Infatti, come si legge nella relazione rimessa dal parroco al Vescovo diocesano, la folgore, alla quale seguì repentino ritorno al sereno, senza toccare il campanile verso cui doveva essere attratta dal metallo delle campane e attraversandolo, non vi arrecò danni e non colpì il parroco e il sagrestano intenti alle relative mansioni. Fece soltanto cadere da una parete una tela raffigurante, pressa il battistero, S. Giovanni Battista, sgretolò l'intonaco che stava dietro e scoprì affrescata un'immagine della Madonna che regge col braccio sinistro il divin Figlio benedicente.
