con Canon EF 1.4x II, 1/2000 f/6.3, ISO 400, hand held. Parco delle Orobie Valtellinesi, Italy. Specie: Aquila chrysaetos

Ero andato a seguire il nido dei picchi neri sfidando il caldo che anche in quota si faceva sentire. Mentre ero lì seduto intravedo un movimento più in basso ed ecco questa sagoma immensa che volteggia vicinissima al bosco prendendo la termica. Un attimo dopo ne compare un'altra. Mentre cerco di inquadrarle una delle due si sposta veloce alla mia sinistra e sparisce alla mia vista. La seconda dopo un paio di volteggi (con scatti controluce) inizia a seguire la prima e mi passa davanti in mezzo agli alberi, prima di fermarsi con un mezzo volteggio su un altissimo abete, un centinaio di metri alla mia sinistra e poco più in basso che, pur essendo a favore di luce, è per me coperto da altre piante che non posso aggirare visto che mi trovavo in equilibrio precario. Mettere o no il moltiplicatore? Con un occhio puntato nella sua direzione decido di tentare il tutto per tutto e in tempo record l'1.4x è montato e la macchina di nuovo accesa, pronta a scattare. Dopo qualche minuto ecco che il gigante si lancia nel vuoto e viene a fare la termica prorpio davanti a me, così vicino che le ali risultano tagliate in una sequenza (oltretutto controluce), prima però concedendomi qualche scatto buono. Un paio di volteggi e sparisce sopra la mia testa, lasciandomi un'emozione unica e indescrivibile, con la consapevolezza di aver vissuto un momento irripetibile. E la dimostrazione che per fare fotografia naturalistica non servono esche o richiami, ma solo tantissima pazienza e, perché no, un po' di fortuna.
