Dalla cima della cava Gioia si gode un panorama unico, lo sguardo ad ovest spazia nel litorale Toscano, dall'isola d'Elba fino alla Corsica nei giorni tersi, mentre dalla parte opposta si vede la costa Ligure arrivando a scorgere il promontorio di Portovenere e l'isola Palmaria (come pubblicato in fotografia) tutto intorno si vedono le cave di marmo di Carrara i più grandi bacini marmiferi al mondo (fotografia che dovete pazientare ad ammirare, sarà usata per l'ultima parte del tour) Si narra che Michelangelo, raggiungesse Colonnata per scegliere di persona i blocchi di marmo statuario ed in tali occasioni facesse incetta di lardo.
