L'eclisse totale di Luna del 27 Luglio 2018 fa da cornice al panorama sulla città di Vicenza che si può godere dal pianoro di Monteviale. Annunciata ampiamente dai media come l'eclisse lunare più lunga del secolo, si è presentata con ben 103 minuti di durata della fase totale e una magnitudine dell'ombra pari a 1,6 dati dalla traiettoria del nostro satellite che intersecava il centro del cono d'ombra terrestre. Un evento notevole ma non da primato. Bisognerà aspettare il 26/6/2029 per assistere ad un eclissi totale di Luna dall'oscuramento ancora più intenso, verrà infatti raggiunta la magnitudine di 1,8 che rappresenta il grado massimo raggiungibile in un eclissi lunare.
