Anatomy of a Nepenthes (Dissection) sent on February 26, 2013 (21:37) by Steve Mackay. 10 comments, 1637 views.

, 1.6 sec f/9.0, ISO 100, tripod.

here's a composite I created of this bizarre (and my favourite) plant, I had the idea of dissecting it, to show what's inside. I then went for a completely black background, I know many nature photographers dislike black bg's, but I thought it really shows off the Pitcher's well and sort of fits in with this completely (and deliberately) unnatural looking shot.........I wanted to create an image that reminded me of some of the text books I grew up looking at (and which fuelled my love of plants and nature to this day)........I put this pic in the "still Life" section, but would prefer to put it in the "Macro" section, as I think it's more of a study of a plant, than a still life :-) All 3 shots in this composite are stacked, this Nepenthes (Alata) is approx 35mm tall. 5D2, 180mm, natural light, small black lined bin for the bg, focus rail, cable release, helicon focus.
