Il Vasari lo chiamava “Il Palma” e lo magnificava di complimenti arrivando a dire che Leonardo da Vinci e Michelangelo Buonarroti non avrebbero altrimenti operato. Il suo vero nome è Jacomo Nigretto de Lavalle meglio conosciuto come Jacopo Palma il Vecchio, nato a Serina nel 1480, cittadino della Repubblica di Venezia e pittore esponente della scuola veneta, dove morì nel 1528. Pittore affermato la sua arte pittorica è appresa dai maestri veneziani (Bellini, Giorgione, Tiziano) e incentrata su soggetti sacri e ritrattistica conservati in importati Gallerie e Musei (Uffizi di Firenze; Pinacoteca di Brera di Milano; Ermitage di San Pietroburgo; National Gallery di Londra; Castello di Windsor; a Venezia, Madrid, Dresda e altre città ancora), di lui resta una sola opera firmata conservata a Berlino. Nella Chiesa di Santa Maria Annunciata della città natale di Serina sono conservate alcune sue opere tra cui il Polittico della Resurrezione con i Santi Filippo e Giacomoni qui in foto posto in una cornice lignea barocca di preziosa fattura. La lunga e delicata fase di restauro ha riportato alla luce in tutto il suo splendore ciò che ha reso Il Palma così famoso e apprezzato nel mondo: il Colore. Pittore scelto come simbolo della provincia di Bergamo per Expo 2015.
