I Dardi sono una etnia di origine indoeuropea che ha occupato alcune valli del Ladakh, scacciando i Mon circa un migliaio di anni fa. L'unica colonia di Dardi autentici é costituita da una popolazione di settecento individui nelle valle di Dah-hanu, raggruppati a circa 24 chilometri a nord di Kargil, presso la strada militare indiana. I Brokpà continuano la loro vita autonoma ed indipendente in un'autarchia basata sui frutti e sui prodotti offerti dalla terra di queste valli relativamente basse di quota e dal clima favorevole.
