Si tratta dello spazio alle spalle dell'altare il quale non consiste affatto in un ambiente sormontato da una volta ma semplicemente di un vano profondo meno un metro nel quale è stato realizzato un dipinto "trompe l'oeil", che crea cioè una completa illusione ottico-prospettica di falsa tridimensionalità. Si trattava, all'epoca della sua realizzazione, di rimediare alla carenza di spazio che si generò quando non vennero autorizzate le dimensioni del progetto originale della chiesa.
