Mi scuso con quanti prima avevano commentato questa foto, ma presentava delle imperfezioni per cui l'ho tolta e riproposta, grazie La fontana di Madonna Verona, in Piazza delle Erbe, è uno dei monumenti cittadini più rappresentativi e amati dai veronesi. Essa è infatti una grande rappresentazione simbolica della stessa città di Verona. Fu costruita da Cansignorio, ultimo dei grandi signori della famiglia Della Scala, nel 1368, utilizzando una grande vasca termale romana in marmo rosso di Verona e sormontadola con una statua il cui corpo anche era un originale romano, forse addiritura una delle statue acroteriali che decoravano il campidoglio nel foro. La testa e le braccia, mancanti, furono aggiunte al momento della realizzazione della fontana. Verona risultò quindi raffigurata come una bella regina (mea domina appunto, contratto in madonna, l'appellativo con cui venivano chiamate le nobildonne nel medioevo) il cui corpo, come le origini della città, è di epoca romana mentre capo e braccia risalgono al successivo momento di massimo splendore della città, il '300 con la Signoria Scaligera. Nello stelo che regge il piedistallo della statua sono raffigurati i volti dei quattro regnanti della città: il mitico Vero, Alboino re dei Longobardi, Berengario e nuovamente Verona regina. La statua regge un cartiglio in rame con la seguente iscrizione: EST JUSTI LATRIX URBS HAEC ET LAUDIS AMATRIX. Ossia "E' città che dispensa giustizia ed ama la lode", antico motto della città.
