Santiago di Atitlan. Un momento di vita cittadina dove alcuni ragazzi stanno preparando un percorso che porta alla Parrocchia degli Apostoli, in centro. Ci son i bambini appena usciti da scuola, due signore che parlano e un ubriaco steso in terra all'incrocio. Entrando nella chiesa colpiscono le statue dei santi vestite come se fossero dei manichini. Alcuni aspetti delle ritualità maya si sono integrate con quelle della chiesa cattolica. In quei luoghi, fino agli anni novanta c'è stata una guerra civile feroce, dove il governo usava mezzi repressivi distruttivi, rivolti sopratutto alla popolazione maya e al clero che la sosteneva.
