..questo scatto ha una storia molto particolare. Westminster, principale chiesa di Londra sotto le cui altissime volte trovano sepoltura diversi re (da Edoardo I Plantageneto - quello delle battaglie di Scozia narrate nel film Braveheart - a Riccardo II, da Enrico VII alla sanguinaria Elisabetta I) è, assieme a Notre Dame de Paris, il piu' elevato esempio di architettura Gotica mai concepito ed edificato. Severo e silenzioso luogo di culto, è sottoposto ad una rigida regolamentazione che prevede, tra gli altri, il divieto assoluto di fotografare. Tuttavia, dopo aver elargito ben 25 Pounds ai sudditi di Sua Maestà per l'ingresso, sentivo il dovere morale di portare a casa almeno una foto. La Cattedrale è stracolma di stewards che non vedono l'ora di addocchiare qualche turista con velleità fotografiche per negargli la gioia dello scatto. Pertanto, preventivamente conscio della cosa, mentre ero in coda per l'ingresso ho ipotizzato un'esposizione che potesse essere ragionevolmente adatta all'ambiente che avrei trovato all'interno (poca luce, per lo piu laterale, contrasti elevati e ampi spazi sviluppati in altezza). Imposto la reflex a 2000 ISO (meglio abbondare che deficere), mantengo la focale piu ampia che posso (14 mm, con particolare attenzione a non inclinare il corpo macchina per evitare la convergenze delle linee verticali tipica dei grandangolari spinti), apertura pari a f8 per non perdere troppo dettaglio e 1/60 quale tempo di posa. Entro, verifico velocemente e l'esposimetro mi da ragione. Mi posiziono al centro della navata e, con la mia full frame all'altezza dell'ombelico, innesco l'otturatore (ovviamente senza prendere la mira, riponendo fede assoluta nell'autofocus del mio 14-24). O la va o la spacca, mi dico, tanto lo stewart nero e grosso si stava già dirigendo verso il sottoscritto e, pochi secondi dopo, mi avrebbe ordinato di riporre la reflex nello zaino. Questo è il risultato, dopo una doverosa opera di sviluppo. Direi non male, per essere stato uno scatto eseguito praticamente alla cieca.
