Una località calabrese con un forte impatto emotivo nei giorni che precedono Pasqua è Nocera Terinese (CZ) dove si svolge il rito dei "Vattienti". Le origini sono antichissime, la cosa certa è che tale rito ha il fine di celebrare la flagellazione e la morte che Cristo subì per offrire a tutti la resurrezione. La scena vede 2 figure protagoniste: il Cristo flagellato ricoperto di piaghe e sangue (il vattiente), il secondo è il Cristo successivamente alla flagellazione che viene portato dinnanzi al popolo per essere giudicato, detto Ecce Homo. Le due figure sono legate da una corda che indica l'unicità della rappresentazione. Il vattiente indossa una maglia nera ed un pantalone corto nero e sul capo è posata una corona di spine, l'ecce homo indossa un solo panno rosso che lascia scoperto il petto ed anch'esso una coroncina di spine. Quest'ultimo, nel percorrere le vie del paese porta con sé una croce. Il vattiente prima di procedere alla flagellazione, lava le gambe con infuso di rosmarino e successivamente utilizza lo stesso dopo la flagellazione poiché ha alto potere cicatrizzante. Gli strumenti utilizzati sono la rosa e il cardo che a più riprese vengono battuti sulle cosce e sui polpaccio. Il cardo, è un disco circolare di circa 10 cm che ha all'interno intagli di vetri, la rosa, delle stesse dimensioni serve ad ammortizzare le parti che vengono colpite e ripulirle del sangue che fuoriesce. Durante questo rito, i Vattienti incontrano la vergine addolorata durante una solenne processione. Le foto hanno lo scopo di immortalare gli attimi più vivi, cruenti e cruciali di questa celebrazione. The scene has two person inside:Christ with wounds and bloody (vattiente) , the second represent Christ in front of the people by Pilati say ecce homo. They are related by a rode to represent the unicity of the scene. The vattiente Wear a black T-shirt and Short trouser and on the Head there is a rode, the other has a Red suit with chest and a crown of thrones. This last has a wood cross on the shoulder . Vattiente washes himself with a rosemary infusion before the flagellation and after. The struments used are Rose and thistle, the first to clean the blood and the second to hit the legs. These are circular of 10 centemetres (see te picture). During this rite, Vattienti meet the procession and hit themselves in front of Madonna.
