Gruccione,(Merops apiaster) un variopinto uccello che per nidificare stanzia nelle nostre zone nel periodo compreso fra aprile-maggio e settembre per poi andare a svernare in Africa. Costruisce il suo nido scavando nel terreno lunghe gallerie che possono arrivare anche ai 2.5 metri di profondità, al termine delle quali si trova una "camera" all'interno della quale vengono depone le uova. Il suo nome in inglese è "Bee-eater",ossia mangiatore di api.La sua alimentazione è costituita da insetti alati quali bombi, libellule, vespe, coleotteri e per l'appunto api.
