Il castello medievale di Cordovado è nato sulle vestigia di un castrum romano che era posto a guardia di un guado della via Augusta, su un ramo ora prosciugato del fiume Tagliamento, ai confini del Patriarcato di Concordia Sagittaria di cui era feudo. Verso la metà del XVI secolo per matrimonio divenne proprietà dei conti d'Attimis, poi nel XVIII secolo, sempre per matrimonio la proprietà passò alla famiglia dei conti Freschi di Cucanea.
