La Valle di Susa è stata oggetto di approfonditi studi da parte degli ideatori del Borgo per la sua costante circolazione di materiali e tecniche costruttive per tutto il medioevo. L'incontro tra il laterizio, tipico della pianura, e i materiali lignei usati nell'alta valle è testimoniato da questo edificio, che si ispira a quello, tuttora esistente, di casa Aschieri a Bussoleno. Lungo la via maestra il sottoportico, impostato su solide colonne in pietrame, costituisce un pregevole lavoro di carpenteria. Il lato che affaccia sulla piazzetta è costruito come accesso all'abitazione: la scala in muratura conduce al piano superiore, e le due aperture al di sotto fingono l'ingresso alla cantina e al porcile. Sopra le due finestre decorate, che riportano nel timpano lo stemma della famiglia Aschieri, è riprodotta la festosa Danza dei Folli, copiata dalla facciata di un'osteria di Lagnasco, in provincia di Cuneo, diroccata poco dopo la costruzione del Borgo. Nel 1884 il piano terreno della casa era occupato dalla bottega della ceramica, che utilizzava anche l'attiguo locale nella casa di Frossasco quale magazzino, e i cui prodotti venivano cotti nel forno ricavato all'interno della Torre d'Alba. Dal 1894 il fabbro, con officina nell'Albergo dei Pellegrini, insediò qui la propria bottega, occupando anche i locali del primo piano e quelli dell'attigua casa ad uso abitazione. Negli anni Trenta a pian terreno e nel sottoscala trova sede la bottega del vetro; negli anni Sessanta alla bottega del ferro battuto si affianca quella del legno e dell'intarsio. Oggi il primo piano è adibito ad abitazione del fabbro che ha il propria bottega al piano terreno; il laboratorio con la forgia si trova invece nello spazio al di là della grande porta posta alle spalle della fontana di Salbertrand.
