(Guneipada, Gabada tribe village) - Questo è uno dei rari scatti che sono riuscito ad eseguire in Orissa, durante un viaggio dedicato alle tribu indigene della regione. Decine di realtà tribali in un contesto assolutamente primitivo nascoste tra le foreste impenetrabili dei monti Niyamgiri e che hanno finora rifiutato qualsiasi tipo di integrazione nella società. Per la prima volta, nel mio lungo viaggio in India, ho visitato un luogo accompagnato da una guida. Sono, queste, aree veramente difficili da raggiungere (un puntino nella giungla) ma principalmente per una sicurezza personale. Sono per lo più persone pacifiche sì, ma è normale anche vedere individui che si aggirano armati di arco e frecce avvelenate completamente ubriachi dal vino di riso che loro stessi producono. Bisogna cercare, quindi, di essere il più possibile discreti cercando di non turbare la pace puntandogli contro, ad esempio, un obiettivo. Con tutto la delicatezza e il massimo silenzio cercando di non "tradirla", ho avuto il permesso di fotografare questa donna, appartenente alla tribù dei Gadaba, rimasta cieca molti anni fa. Lei c'è anche dentro di me, ma è bellissimo rivederla in foto. La sua espressione, la sua pelle forgiata dal tempo, i punti neri tatuati sul viso che scacciano gli spiriti maligni, quei tessuti colorati ricavati dalla fibra della corteccia, gli orecchini in ottone, le collanine di perline colorate e quei pesanti collari d'alluminio che solo il fabbro potrà rimuovere dopo la sua morte e che verranno tramandati alle figlie. Un'altra India ancora, che ha in sè i colori dell'Africa, chiamata Orissa.
