L'uniforme di gala, la divisa probabilmente più famosa del mondo, deve la sua esistenza al Comandante Jules Repond (1910-1921) che la disegnò così dopo approfondite ricerche e sulla base degli affreschi di Raffaello. I colori blu e giallo appartengono allo stemma di famiglia della Rovere, la famiglia di Papa Giulio II fondatore della Guardia. Il rosso viene dalla famiglia Medici, da cui proveniva il Papa Clemente VII. Le bande blu e gialle interrompono con un movimento fluido il rosso della giacca e dei pantaloni. Il cappello è stato sostituito dal berretto basco attuale, sul quale si può distinguere il grado. In un secondo tempo è stato modificato anche il collo bianco attuale. (fonte Wikipedia)
