Terminato l'intervento guariniano, la residenza si presentò per alcuni decenni incompiuta sul versante meridionale affacciato sul paese. Ne costituisce una precisa documentazione l'incisione in rame di Bartolomeo Tasniere, realizzata nel 1712 in cui si nota come il corpo racchiudente il salone incombeva in modo assai pesante sulla vecchia facciata, fiancheggiata da due torri diverse, quella di ponente coronata da una loggetta. Il cortile presentava ancora vetusti bassi fabbricati "di servizio", certo non consoni ad un castello principesco. Nel 1755, il quarto principe di Carignano, Ludovico Vittorio, figlioccio del re di Francia Luigi XV e che per lunghi anni aveva vissuto a Parigi, affidò a Giovan Battista Borra (1713 - 1770) l'incarico di riplasmare le facciate sud e laterali e di rendere più decorosa la zona d'ingresso abbattendo i vecchi edifici attorno al cortile. Il Borra, reduce da viaggi di indagine archeologica nel vicino oriente e da una felice esperienza londinese, era permeato da una precoce cultura neoclassica. Egli intervenne sulla facciata meridionale alleggerendone la sensazione di peso ed esaltandola con una momunentale scalinata culminante in uno splendido pronao con colonne ioniche e un timpano triangolare. La sobria decorazione in cotto delle aperture, l'elegante disegno dei capitelli e delle sculture in marmo bianco esemplificano la cura che l'architetto, nativo di Dogliani, pose nella soluzione dei particolari, nel rispetto della pregnante presenza della preesistente struttura guariniana.
