L'imponente aula interna della chiesa è suddivisa in tre ampie navate, coperte da volte a crociera costolonate la cui decorazione neogotica è realizzata dai fratelli Gauteri intorno al 1849-55. Le due navate laterali sono più basse, mentre la centrale raggiunge i ventuno metri.La zona presbiterale è dominata dalla grandiosa macchina dell'altare maggiore costruita nel primo ventennio del XVIII secolo, di cui le undici statue in legno, tinteggiate in biacca bianca, sono opera dello scultore luganese Carlo Giuseppe Plura. Esse rappresentano la Vergine Assunta sorretta dagli angeli e protetta da Costanzo e Chiaffredo il tutto sovrastato dalla figura del Padre Eterno affiancato dalla Fede e dalla Carità. La mensa d'altare conteneva le reliquie di Chiaffredo (testa ed elmo) ora custodite nella sacrestia.
