Quelle rappresentate sono le case dei lavoratori della seta, parte del sogno utopistico di Ferdinando IV di Borbone che a fine '700 creò la Real Colonia di San Leucio ubicata a circa 2,5 km da Caserta. In tale contesto fu insediata l'industria serica coinvolgendo nel progetto le migliori maestranze europee della seta; per loro furono realizzate le case date in uso gratuito ed a loro fu assicurata l'istruzione gratuita per i figli e le migliori condizioni di vita, di lavoro e di paga d'Europa. Si creò così un'eccellenza italiana, i cui prodotti oggi addobbano anche il Quirinale, il Vaticano, Buckingham Palace e la Sala Ovale della Casa Bianca. Purtroppo il 3 marzo 2015 chiuderà anche l'ultimo opificio della seta di San Leucio nato da quel sogno.
