Le attenzioni maschili a volte possono diventare piuttosto insistenti. Lo sanno bene le bellissime donne della tribù indiana degli Apatani, che per secoli hanno dovuto sopportare le poco gradite avances degli uomini di altre etnie. Tanto da decidere di "imbruttirsi" apposta, per essere lasciate in pace. Così, secondo la tradizione, è nata la loro usanza di tatuarsi il viso e inserirsi delle grosse placche di legno scuro nelle narici. Una pratica che, col tempo, si è trasformata in un "segno distintivo" di questa tribù. Anche se negli ultimi anni è caduta in disuso: le giovanissime infatti preferiscono rimanere belle al naturale.
