Tempera verniciata su tavola di Macrino d'Alba.Grande Pala d'Altare che rappresenta la Madonna con Bambino in trono, i santi Giovanni Battista, Giacomo, Gerolamo, Ugone. Sotto un'arcata di portico è collocata la Vergine Maria con Gesù in grembo, nell'alto di ricevere un fiore da un putto sulla sinistra, mentre sulla destra un altro putto suona uno strumento musicale. Nuvole sostenute da angeli formano il sedile su cui sono adagiati la Vergine e il Bambino. In basso a sinistra San Giacomo e San Giovanni e a destra San Gerolamo e Sant'Ugo; al centro sotto alla Madonna due angeli in piedi e due seduti su di uno sgabello suonano e cantano. Ai piedi dello sgabello troviamo il cartiglio con la firma Macrinus faciebat 1498, sull'orlo dell'abito di San Gerolamo vi è un'altra scritta Macrinus de Alba faciebat. La grande pala, oggi alla Galleria Sabauda, fu dipinta per la Certosa di Valmanera presso Asti e, secondo una fonte dell'Ottocento, non più verificabile, una famiglia astigiana, De laurenzi o Lorenzi, donò ai certosini astigiani una cascina chiamata la Margheria a condizione che nella chiesa della Certosa fosse eretto un altare e fosse dipinta la presente icona; i Lorenzi però probabilmente non ne seguirono l'arredo, infatti nell'opera non troviamo committenti o allusioni a questa famiglia; una testimonianza del Vernazza del 1770 ne indica la sistemazione sull'altare dedicato a San Bruno. In seguito alla soppressione della Certosa da parte del governo francese l'opera andò all'incanto con gli altri beni della Certosa e giunse in seguito per donazione al Seminario di Asti, dove la vide Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle che ne caldeggiò l'acquisizione da parte della Galleria Sabauda nel 1871.
