Verona ... gennaio 2015 ... Simbolo indiscusso di Verona e terzo per grandezza dopo il Colosseo e l'anfiteatro di Capua, l'anfiteatro romano universalmente noto come Arena è un'opera grandiosa. La pianta ellittica originaria aveva l'asse esterno di 152 metri e quello interno di 123 metri; il rovinoso crollo seguito al terremoto del 1183 ha quasi interamente demolito il gigantesco anello esterno a tre ordini di archi ed alto 30 metri e attualmente l'anfiteatro è lungo 139 metri e largo 110. La cavea interna è formata da 44 gradinate concentriche di grandezza scalare a partire dal podio e interamente ricostruite a far data dal 1579 dai Conservatores Arenae istituiti sotto la guida della Serenissima.
