Annessa al convento dei Frati Minori Osservanti, la chiesa di Santa Maria di Gesù venne edificata agli inizi del XVI secolo, come attesta la data riportata sullo splendido portale ogivale che si trova alla sinistra dell'attuale ingresso, e fu parzialmente danneggiata dal terremoto del 1693.
