Fabriano-Correlato alla mostra "Da Giotto a Gentile da Fabriano" è l'affresco della foto che si trova nel catino absidale della Chiesa di San Domenico. Raffigura un miracolo di San Nicola di Bari. Racconta la leggenda che nella città dove si trovava il vescovo Nicola, un padre, non avendo i soldi per costituire la dote alle sue tre figlie e farle così sposare convenientemente, avesse deciso di mandarle a prostituirsi. Nicola, venuto a conoscenza di questa idea, fornì tre sacchetti con tre palle d'oro che costituirono quindi la dote delle fanciulle, salvandone la purezza. Nell'affresco, al centro dell'esile architettura, è il letto delle ragazze. Le protagoniste, dipinte addormentate, stupiscono per la delicatezza degli incarnati e per il gioco raffinato della raffigurazione delle nudità con il garbo leggero di chi si muove nel sonno. In primo piano, preoccupato, è il genitore delle fanciulle: seduto, con la testa appoggiata al palmo della mano destra, guarda verso il basso senza accorgersi del monumentale San Nicola. Nello sgargiante mantello rosso, il Santo appoggia sul davanzale della finestra il sacchetto con le tre sfere auree che salveranno le sue figlie dal triste destino. Lo spazio è dominato dalla scatola, di stile giottesco, della casa delle ragazze. San Nicola è facilmente riconoscibile perché tiene in mano tre sacchetti con le tre palle d'oro.
