Il macaone è uno dei lepidotteri più comuni nel mio terreno, ogni anno ne allevo a decine e succede spesso che lo stesso giorno nascono più esemplari, il 10 luglio ho notato che due crisalidi erano quasi completamente trasparenti, segno che mancavano poche ore alla nascita. Le ho portate con me in esplorazione notturna con la speranza di fotografare le farfalle alla schiusa e come avevo previsto in piena notte sono nati questi due bellissimi esemplari. Porto sempre con me 2 zaini e alcuni fauna box: uno contiene le crisalidi in fase di schiusa, oppure le farfalle appena nate che devo liberare, gli altri sono vuoti per poter recuperare i bruchi che trovo durante l'esplorazione. Di notte scelgo delle zone come base, lascio tutta l'attrezzatura lì e proseguo nei paraggi solo con la macchina fotografica in mano per muovermi liberamente senza la preoccupazione di urtare con gli zaini da qualche parte. Quando invece devo fotografare animali su un posatoio come in questo caso, trovo un punto adatto e piazzo treppiedi e flash. Mi sono sempre trovato bene con questo sistema, in natura bisogna essere silenziosi e veloci, ma occorre sempre attrezzatura specifica di vario tipo. Al momento della schiusa sono riuscito a fotografarle singolarmente vicino alla crisalide ancora con le ali arrotolate, poi le ho osservate mentre le distendevano. Ho deciso di fotografarle insieme, come posatoio ho usato un rametto fiorito di Bougainvillea, il nettare di questi fiori piace moltissimo ai macaoni, di giorno ce ne sono sempre tanti che si posano su queste piante. Nei giorni precedenti aveva piovuto, quella notte c'era molta umidità e un leggero vento costante, a tratti anche forte. Le farfalle avevano difficoltà a restare ferme sui fiori e cambiavano spesso posizione, potevo scattare solo quando il vento diminuiva. Nonostante i diversi problemi sono riuscito a fare molte foto, poi le ho lasciate riposare sul rametto e ho continuato l'esplorazione. La mattina dopo le ho viste volare insieme con enorme soddisfazione. Colgo l'occasione con questa foto per augurarvi Buone Feste natalizie.
