Emblematic image to show the harsh law of survival.
Ben explained the bloody scene you witnessed, the hippos tried to do what even a man in front of that scene would like to do: defend the weakest, but the law for survival imposes such actions on the crocodile.
Beautiful photo, magazine and award.
CIAO, Gastone. ;-)

Hello Susy, a shot that makes us understand the harsh law of the savannah, someone has to succumb to to continue the life of another, we would all be on the wildebeest side but so the balance of nature would not work. I was struck by the fact that hippos came to "rescue" the poor wildebeest, is there an explanation? Very beautiful composition with heron in the background that can do nothing but spectator to this cruel scene. A dear greeting and congratulations, hello Fabrizio

Hello, Fabrizio. Hard to explain. Sometimes nature surprises even with episodes like this. It is true that hippos and crocodiles are opponents who compete for the same space. It is also true that in the group of hippos there was a small one. However, it is not explained why the hippos, which were quite far away, reached the crocodile with great determination and one of them was literally mounted on his head forcing him to open his mouth...

Sad but it is natural. Nice capture.

The harsh selection of nature, a raw and violent scene but inevitably.
A flower greeting 8-)
