Ricordi di famiglia: martedì, 20 Settembre 1870: circa alle ore 10, dopo circa 5 ore di cannonate, le truppe italiane entrarono in Roma attraverso la breccia che riuscirono ad aprire nelle mura che cingevano la città, alla destra di Porta Pia, sostenendo un breve combattimento con le truppe pontificie. I soldati italiani furono accolti calorosamente dalla popolazione: il potere temporale dei Papi era cessato. Cleteo Mannucci, classe 1843 nato a Fabriano, terzo figlio di una famiglia benestante, partecipò alla presa della città combattendo in un reparto agli ordini del Generale Nino Bixio e al soldato garibaldino fu consegnata una medaglia d'argento per i suoi meriti durante la battaglia.
