Il cimitero austro-ungarico di Vigo di Fassa si trova a pochi chilometri dalla linea che marcò il confine (ed il fronte) durante la Grande Guerra. A quel tempo il paese trentino era un centro di primaria importanza in quanto era utilizzato come sede di smistamento per le truppe che facevano ritorno o che dovevano dirigersi al fronte di Costabella. I numerosi caduti che si registrarono su questo difficile tratto di fronte (che andava oltre i 2500 metri di altitudine) imposero la costruzione di un cimitero militare. Questo venne allestito nel 1916 nei pressi di un bosco di conifere non lontano dall'antica chiesa gotica di Santa Giuliana, fuori dal centro abitato. I lavori furono effettuati dalla 179^ compagnia di fanteria (Jäger) e dai prigionieri russi che dal fronte orientale venivano trasferiti per essere impiegati nei lavori di manovalanza. Centinaia di soldati trovarono quindi sepoltura in questo camposanto, tutti segnalati con una croce di legno. Dopo pochi anni naturalmente questo tipo di tombe si deteriorarono e furono sostituite dalla Croce Nera Austriaca negli anni '90. Grazie al loro prezioso intervento, oggi il cimitero è visitabile ed è così possibile scoprire un'importante testimonianza della Grande Guerra sul fronte dolomitico. All'entrata l'attenzione è immediatamente catturata da un grande dipinto che raffigura un soldato mentre rende omaggio ad un proprio commilitone. Una volta all'interno del camposanto, si possono ammirare le croci e le lapidi lungo il muro di cinta che segnalano la presenza di 663 soldati austro-ungarici. Il vialetto interno, in leggera salita, porta alla cappella votiva dove si può vedere un secondo dipinto, questa volta dedicato ad un soldato di Vigo (a quel tempo facente parte dell'Impero austro-ungarico) morto in Ucraina nel 1914. Infine è presente anche un cippo che ricorda la tragica morte di sei soldati - guide alpine travolte da una valanga sul fronte di Costabella il 3 marzo 1917.
