Le barche da pesca che solcano il lago di Bolsena hanno una tipica forma triangolare con fondo piatto, di probabile derivazione etrusca, che nel corso dei secoli ha subito trasformazioni e miglioramenti così da renderla perfettamente rispondente alle esigenze dei pescatori del posto. In tempi passati la chiglia (fonno) e le fiancate (sponne) erano costruite in legno di cerro mentre le coste (matèe) erano in legno di olivo. A causa dell'elevato peso specifico del cerro, queste barche erano molto pesanti anche in considerazione delle dimensioni che si aggirano da un minimo di 5 metri a un massimo di 7 metri per la lunghezza e circa 1,5 metri per la larghezza. Questa barca viene vogata in piedi come la gondola veneziana. I remi, generalmente in numero di 2, sono posti in posizione asimmetrica. Quello anteriore è detto rjemo, quello posteriore rosta e funge anche da timone. Occasionalmente la barca è provvista di altri due remi: il rjemo de mezzo e il rjemo de punta, utilizzati in caso di tempesta o per le gare. Molto prima dell'avvento dei motori, tale imbarcazione era provvista di una vela rettangolare, poggiata su due alberi, che offriva ausilio all'uso dei remi. Nel 1994, in occasione dell'anno Amalasuntiano, le barche etrusche hanno partecipato alla Regata Storica a Venezia e un modello delle stesse, completo in tutti i dettagli, è stato donato al Museo Storico Navale dove è attualmente esposto.
