Così pesca la cicogna nera. Allarga le ali e tenendole aperte saltella in lungo e in largo in una pozza d'acqua per spaventare i pesciolini, quelli pensano che sia in arrivo un cataclisma, grande e nera com'è, e così fuggono via dai loro ripari, e in questo modo lei tuffa il becco e ne prende uno ma non lo infilza, perchè usa il becco come una pinza. Il problema è capire qual'è la pozza dove lei pescherà quel giorno, e qui sta il difficile, oltre che mimetizzarsi in modo ineccepibile, perché è l'uccello più sospettoso che io abbia mai visto, e se nota la minima cosa fuori posto non verrà mai. Quando apre le ali, se è abbastanza vicina, appare enorme: qui dai dati di scatto vedo che ho dovuto scendere da 500 a 289 mm per prenderla intera. Comunque, anche se l'ho vista tante volte in pesca, ogni volta è una grande emozione.
