Nepal, Katmandu 1977, da negativo Ilford FP4. Mi aggiro per le strade di Katmandu armato: sulla sinistra ho una Nikkormat ft2 nera caricata con un kodachrome 25 asa, la uso per il colore; al collo un'altra Nikkormat ft2 metallo caricata a ILFORD FP4, ci monto uno sproposito, un Komurano 70/210 e sparo in Bianco e nero. Li vedo, lui e quella che forse è la sorella, mi aggiro con noncuranza, quasi con circospezione, ma lui ha già capito tutto. Mi guarda: l'incontro/scontro è impari, lui sa, perché è abituato, che dovrà soccombere, ma in un ultimo scatto di orgoglio, con improntitudine caccia da sotto la mercanzia una sigaretta e con quell'impertinente sguardo, che solo gli scugnizzi possono avere, mi fuma provocatoriamente verso. Io non resisto e ... shot! A casa avrò di che mostrare. Chi avrebbe mai immaginato che dopo quarant'anni sarei tornato a vantarmi, questa volta però, dinnanzi a un pubblico più ampio e per lo più sconosciuto? Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas!
