Appesi come addobbi natalizi, sulle foglie flagellate dalla pioggia, le uova della raganella occhi rossi erano là alla mercè di fotografi e predatori. Stavamo studiando il modo di riprenderle e valorizzarne l'incredibile e visibile contenuto, quando l'arrivo del rettile ha radicalmente mutato la situazione. Mi sono avvicinato, emozionato ma anche rammaricato per quanto si preannunciava. Forse la mia presenza troppo incombente, disturbava il serpentello. Dopo qualche attimo di esitazione, sfilava via veloce. Per i piccoli la speranza di nascere tornava quasi insperata, per il predatore il compito di cercare altrove il pasto quotidiano.
