New
cameras from PMA - January 29, 2008 |
| The PMA
show has arrived and all major manufacturer
have announced new cameras - honestly, nothing
exciting, there had been just small updates
and little real innovation. Canon has
announced the 450D (that I have just added to
the Canon
cameras lineup page); Nikon has announced
the Nikon
D60 and some new lenses (24
TS, 45 PC, 85 PC, 60 Micro AF-S and the 16-85
VR); Pentax has announced the K20D
and K200D,
and Sony has announced the A200,
and the A300 and A350 (to be announced
tomorrow...these may be the most interesting
announcements, they seem to have both optical
and electronic viewfinder). |

LensCoat
Covers and Hoodie - January 28,
2008 |
| The
Canon superteles are white: the bright color
might scare your subject, in particular if you
are photographing shy subjects from a hide.
LensCoat makes excellent lens covers for
nearly all superteles currently in production
from the major manufacturers...I have added
some more info about the nice LensCoat Cover
in the The
essential accessories, and more info about
the Hoodie (with photos) here: The
new LensCoat Hoodie.

Fossils
/ Canon 180 Macro gallery - January
25, 2008 |
| I have
published a small gallery with some
fossils photos taken with the Canon 180 Macro.
The gallery now has four high resolution
photos - interesting both for fossils fans and
for photographers, that can evaluate the image
quality of the 180 Macro thanks to the 100%
crops attacched to each photo.
All photo had been taken with the 21
megapixel Canon 1Ds3. |

Sigma
12-24mm on Canon 1Ds3 - January 17,
2008 |
| A couple
of days ago I have received the Sigma
12-24...In the past I tried another copy of
the 12-24 (on 5D), I thought that it was good
but it looks like I was wrong...this new copy
is way sharper, in particular in the corners!
With my first copy, I had to stop down to f/16
to get acceptable corners, while with the new
copy the corners are already acceptable wide
open at f/4.5, they are good at f/8 and very
good at f/11...
The first sample is online: Sigma

Canon
180 Macro Review, part 1 - January
14, 2008 |
| The
Canon 180 macro is the finest macro lens in
the Canon lineup. I had the Sigma 180, and I
recently replaced it with the Canon. Does the
Canon lens delivers better performance?
Actually no, the image quality is about the
same - but it has better built quality, and
overall it is a fine lens, that allows to
capture sharp...
The first half of the review is online! Canon
