Canon
EOS 40D vs 1D Mark IIn -
October 29, 2007 |
| Many
times I'm asked why I bought a 40D instead of
a professional 1 series, as an used 1D2n.
Personally, I think that overall the 40D is a
much better camera; here I compared the main
features...
I've added the comparison to the Canon
EOS 40D review (scroll down towards the
bottom of the page) |

The
Exceptional Canon 28-300 L IS USM -
October 26, 2007 |
| I have
many better flower photos, but this one tells
an interesting story: it is not taken with my
usual macro lens, but with a miracle of modern
technology: the Canon 28-300 L IS USM
superzoom. I was in the beautiful mountains of
Alpe Devero, at an haltitude of 2400
meters...I was wondering around with the
28-300 borrowed from a friend...

Canon
10-22 vs Sigma 10-20 - October 23,
2007 |
| The
Canon 10-22 and the Sigma 10-20 are two of the
most popular wide-angles for APS-C cameras,
thanks to their extremely wide angle of view
(that is the equivalent of a 16mm on
fullframe, and it is as wide as you can get
with an APS-C camera). I have the Canon, but I
have tried many times the Sigma and I have
been very happy by its image quality - some
time ago, I've had the occasion to test
side-by-side...
I have added the test to the Miscellaneous
lens reviews and other tests page! |

The
Milky Way at ISO 3200 - October 20,
2007 |
| I had
envisioned the scene for a lot of time, but
for many reasons, I wasn't able to take this
photo until a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes
the sky was cloudy, other times there was the
Moon or other lights so the Milky Way was not
visibile, other times I was not in the right
place, and so on...In my latest workshop in
the Dolomites, instead, I have been greeted...

Canon
200 f/2 L IS and 800 f/5.6 L IS -
October 17, 2007 |
| Canon
has announced the development of two
interesting superteles: the Canon
200mm f/2 L IS USM and the Canon 800mm f/5.6 L
IS USM. The new lenses will be available
in 2008; so far there are not many info about
technical specifications and price.
PS. An off topic note: there was a problem
with the old software of the
forum, and even though all registraction
had been activated, the confirmation e-mails
had not been sent. If you have registered in
the latest weeks, try to log in with the
username and the psw you have choosen - it is
likely that your account is active, even if
you haven't received any mail! (note: with the
new software, instead, you are immediately
active after registration!) |

Canon
40D, Image Quality - October 08,
2007 |
| The
first thing that you will notice in the specs
of 40D is the increased resolution, from the 8
megapixels of the 20D to 10 megapixel. There
is not an huge difference between 8 and 10
megapixels, but the resolution improvement is
welcome - it allows to capture a bit more
detail, to make larger prints or larger crops.
By the way, the 40D has also...
I have updated the Canon
EOS 40D review with the tests about image
quality, in comparison with 20D! |
