Brighter Than Sun
As last update for this year, I have added a couple of new waterfall photos to the Italy - Trebbia Valley gallery (1200px versions here).

My best wishes for the new year! May your 2008 be brighter than sun and free as the clouds!

The Nokia 6120 Camera Phone - December 28, 2007
Nowadays, even the cheapest mobile phones have a small camera - does it have practical usages, or it is just a toy? I recently bought a Nokia 6120 phone, that has a 2 megapixel camera module - this is a pretty basic unit, with a fixed focus 4.9mm f/3.2 lens and a small CCD sensor. I did not expected to get...

First photos with Canon 1Ds3 - December 20, 2007
I have added some new photos to the galleries: Italy - Various, Ardeidae III, Other Birds II, Ducks, Geese and Grebes, 1200px Landscape Gallery and 1200px Wildlife Gallery.

All the new photos had been taken with the Canon 1Ds Mark III

Canon 1Ds3, detail and resolution - December 17, 2007
It is almost needless to say that the 1Ds3 has outstanding resolution! I was already very happy with the detail captured by the 10 megapixel sensor of my previous 40D, but the 1Ds3 is another world...

I have updated the Canon 1Ds Mark III review with an example of the resolution of this camera!

ISO 3200, Canon 1Ds3 vs Canon 5D - December 15, 2007
Another camera that I was curios to compare with the 1Ds3 is the 5D. Both cameras have a fullframe sensor, but the 5D has 12 megapixels VS the 21 megapixel of the 1Ds3, so it has lower resolution, but better light collection capabilities: how does them compare?

I have added the test to the Canon 1Ds Mark III review!

Compact Flash write speeds - updated with 1Ds3 - December 14, 2007

I have updated the Compact Flash cards write speeds article with the 1Ds3 test...impressive! This camera is not just "a little faster" than previous cameras, it is way faster! Thanks to UDMA support, its write speed blows away even the recent 1D Mark III...give a look to the results of my test to see how it performs in comparision with the other Canon cameras that I tried.

By the way, today I have used the 1Ds3 in the field with an extreme combo: Canon 1Ds3 + 600 f/ 4 + teleconverter 1.4x + teleconverter 2.0x...handheld at 1/640!

Canon 1Ds Mark III: image sample - December 12, 2007

I have added the fist full size image sample to the Canon 1Ds Mark III review. You can download the sample photo both as post-processed JPEG and as untouched RAW file!

Canon 1Ds Mark III: ISO and noise - December 10, 2007
The Canon 1D Mark III was a big improvement in comparison with the 1D Mark II, in spite of the smaller photosites: does the same improvement apply even to the 1Ds3?

I've analyzed the image quality of the 1Ds3 at all ISO settings, and I have compared it to my previous 40D (I'm going to add a comparison with the 5D later this week). The results in my Canon 1Ds Mark III review.

Canon 1Ds Mark III: an all around camera? - December 07, 2007
The Canon 1Ds3 is a good camera for the nature photographer?

I have been asked many times why I have choosen the 1Ds3 instead of the faster 1D Mark III. The answer is...

I've added some consideration about the 1Ds3 and other cameras in the Canon 1Ds Mark III review

Canon 1Ds Mark III, Autofocus test - December 06, 2007
The 1Ds3 shares the same AF module of the 1D3, even though there are some small differences (the 1Ds AF has been adjusted for the slower frame rate). Considering that the 1D3 has had many focus issues, I was a bit worried about the 1Ds3 AF...

Canon 1Ds Mark III...arrived! - December 04, 2007
My Canon 1Ds MarkIII has just arrived! In the following days I'm going to publish my impressions, test and photos with the new Canon flagship, the 21 megapixel fullframe 1Ds3!

In the meantime, if you have any question feel free to ask on JuzaForum: Canon 1Ds MarkIII discussion
