180mm f3.5 EX APO Macro HSM Field Review -
November 24, 2005 |
|
The Sigma 180mm is one
of the best lenses for macro photography. The long
focal allows to isolate the subject against a nicely
blurred background and it gives a good working
distance. Moreover, it has an HSM (ultrasonic) AF
motor for a precise, silent focusing...
I have updated the
review, with more detailed descriptions and full
size image samples :-)

Level Photography - November 21,
2005 |
|
One of the most common
errors of beginners is to take photos of animal and
plants from the eye level of the photographer, i.e.
160-170cm. Generally, the resulting photos hate an
"high to low" perspective and a very
amateurish look. If you want to improve your photos,
you have to get low: ideally, the camera should be
at the same level (height) of the eye of the subject,
of even lower...

| Noise
Reduction - November 17, 2005 |
|
When you use high ISO, the photos
get a grainy look due to noise, a disturbance
created mainly by the amplification of signal
necessary to get the equivalents of high ISO
sensitivities. The majority of SLRs are fully usable
even at ISO 1600; you can improve the look of the
images taken at the highest sensitivities using the
noise reduction function of Photoshop...

| Layers
and Layer Mask - November 14, 2005 |
|
The layers are one of the most
powerful and flexible tools of Photoshop: you can
use layers to overcome the limits of the camera (for
example, to expand dynamic range), to make selective
adjustments of saturation, contrast, sharpness, etc.
or for artistic purposes (e.g. double exposures)...

Length, Angle of View and Perspective -
November 10, 2005 |
|
The first thing that you have to
consider, when you choose a lens, is its focal
length: it is a fundamental attribute of every lens,
since it determines the angle of view, the depth of
field and the perspective...
