| Pretec
announces 4GB SD Card and price drop for the 12GB CF
- July 28, 2005 |
Pretec, the
manufacturer of some of the best memory cards, has
announced today the fastest and largest SD card on the
market: the Pretec 4GB, 133x SD Card. The price will
be near $700.
Other than that, Pretect has drastically reduced the
price of the 12GB CF, from $10,000 to $5,000 (wow!).
Note: often, such price drops are followed by the
introduction of a new model...it is possible that
Pretec is going to announce soon its 25 GB CF.

| Fujifulm
announces 9 Megapixels Compact Cameras
- July 28, 2005 |
Fujifilm has
announced three new cameras : the 9 megapixels
Fujifilm S9000 (equipped with a 10x zoom, 28-300mm
equivalent), the Fujifilm
E900 (9 megapixels, 4x zoom) and the Fujifilm
S5200 (5 mp, 10x zoom).
The S9000 and the E900 can reach respectively ISO 1600
and ISO 800; Fujifilm says that they have "very
little noise at the high ISO settings at full
resolution", and that they match a DSRL. The
S5200 has also an "anti blur more", claimed
to be more effective than image stabilization.
Even though these cameras has some innovative
features, I'm quite disappointed by this announcement,
for three reasons:
- I seriously doubt that ISO 1600 on the S9000 or
S5200 can match ISO 1600 on a DSLR. I'd have preferred
a camera with lower pixel count and better image
quality (truly low noise, more dynamic range).
- They don't have image stabilization! The lenses of
the S9000 and S5200 are the equivalent of a 28-300 and
38-380, so IS would have been very useful.
- The statement that "anti-blur mode is more
effective that stabilization" is ridicule...the
"anti-blur", actually, is not a kind of
stabilization: it is just a function that raises the
ISO value to get a faster shutter speed (it is an
equivalent of the "Sport mode" of other
cameras).

new Portfolio Photos -
July 25, 2005 |
I added three
new photos to my portfolio : The
Morning Light,
Shining in Light and Rain and
Butterfly covered by dew.
I toke the photo with the Canon EOS 350D and the
lenses Canon 17-85 IS USM and Sigma 180mm Macro HSM.
As usual, I used a sturdy tripod (Manfrotto 055 NAT),
mirror lock up and RAW format. |

| Nikon
D200 - July
25, 2005 |
| The successor
of the Nikon D100 has not been announced yet, but few
days ago Nikon has registered the "D200"
trademark on the United
States Patent and Trademark Office. The camera is
going to be announced on late 2005; the specifications
are still unknown, but probably it will have 10-12
megapixels and, in some respects, it will be superior
to the D2X. |
