image quality at every aperture, both in the center
and in the corners, and it is dedicated mainly to
professionals and advanced amateurs that want to know
every detail of the optical performances of their
lenses. The Lens
Review contains a simpler version of this test
(easier to read for amateurs).

Thom Hogan has just
published the reviews of the Nikon D50 kit lenses, the

lenses are called AF-S, they do not have the silent,
fast AF motor of true AF-S lenses!)

Sharpen and Unsharp Mask (version II)
- 08 August, 2005 |
|
The sharpening is one of
the most amazing photo editing tools. The digital
images, due to a multitude of factors (analog to
digital conversion, image processing, camera
characteristics, etc.), are never perfectly
"sharp" ; the sharpening allows to improve
the image creating sharp, crisp photos. There are
mainly two sharpening algorithms : the classic Unsharp
Mask and the new Smart Sharpen...

Camera in the Wilderness : Storage and Energy
- 03 August, 2005 |
The digital
cameras are fabulous tools; they are much more
flexible and powerful than the old film cameras, but
they have two "new" necessities: a storage
media for the image files and a very capable power
source.
Usually, these two necessities are not a concern: a
1GB CF card and one battery are more than enough. If,
instead, you are planning to stay weeks or months away
from civilization, storage and energy should be
considered carefully.
