Hasselblad H2 and H2D - 26 August, 2005

Hasselblad has announced the Hasselblad HD, a new 22 megapixels digital back for medium format cameras and the Hasselblad H2D, a medium format DSLR with the same 22 megapixels CCD. Both the cameras use Adobe DNG as RAW format.

30 New Photos - 25 August, 2005

I added 30 new photos in the Galleries : the jellyfish Aurelia aurita; Acanthurus sohal; the sunflower Helianthus annuus; Pelargonium sp.; some views of Tribolata Valley and many others.

Canon EOS 5D And Other News - 22 August, 2005
Canon has announced today many new products:

- Canon EOS 5D : a professional digital SLR with a 12,8 megapixels, 24x36mm sensor (the same size of a full 35mm frame). The price will be near 3300$. Press release and sample images : http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/eos5d/index.html

- Canon EOS 1D Mark IIN : this is a minor upgrade of the MarkII; it has 2.5" LCD and other small improvements.

- Canon 24-105 L IS USM : an high quality zoom lens, with image stabilization and ultrasonic AF. Price near 1200$.

How to correct lens aberrations with Photoshop (version II) - 20 August, 2005

Some lens aberrations that were a serious problem with film are now easily corrected with the digital technologies. Adobe Photoshop CS2 has a new powerful feature, "Lens Correction", that allows to correct distortion, chromatic aberration, vignetting and others.

I published the advanced test of the Sigma 180 macro. This test analizes the image quality at every aperture, both in the center and in the corners, and it is dedicated mainly to professionals and advanced amateurs that want to know every detail of the optical performances of their lenses. Nikkor 18-55 and 55-200 Review - 12 August, 2005

Canon EOS 5D - 11 August, 2005

According to many websites, Canon is going to announce the new Canon EOS 5D by the end of this month. It should have a 24x36mm sensor (i.e. the same size of a full 35mm frame), 12.8 megapixels, 3FPS per 60 photos and the price should be near 3,500 $. Real or fake? We just have to wait few weeks to know the truth :-)

Smart Sharpen and Unsharp Mask (version II) - 08 August, 2005

Digital Camera in the Wilderness : Storage and Energy - 03 August, 2005
The digital cameras are fabulous tools; they are much more flexible and powerful than the old film cameras, but they have two "new" necessities: a storage media for the image files and a very capable power source.
Usually, these two necessities are not a concern: a 1GB CF card and one battery are more than enough. If, instead, you are planning to stay weeks or months away from civilization, storage and energy should be considered carefully.

Kodak EasyShare P850 and EasyShare P880 - 02 August, 2005
Kodak has announced a new line of digital compact cameras, the P-series. The Kodak EasyShare P880 has an 8 megapixels CCD, a 24-140mm equivalent zoom and it costs near $600. Also the Kodak EasyShare P850 has an 8mp sensor, but it has an image stabilized 38-432mm eq. zoom lens and it costs $500.
