Subjects :landscape: sunrises, sunsets, light effects near bald cypress forests within marshes;fauna: waterfowl and non-waterfowl, including pileate woodpecker, white ibis, greater white heron, major blue heron, dark-eyed heron, egret nivea
Recommended equipment :fullframe/mirrorless reflex with wide angle and medium-board, filters... for boat/canoe sessions the use of the tripod (to take advantage of any long time) becomes particularly demanding.
Best months :the best time to immortalize the iconic bald cypress trees is the autumn one when these places are colored red and yellow creating fairytale/spooky scenarios to say the least.
How to get there :flight from Italy to New Orleans, then by car you go up to Baton Rouge and finally reach the Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge. In car the average travel time is about 2 hours
Visits :is one of the National Wildlife Refuges that does not provide an entrance ticket (the information dates back to before the pandemic, for any and further information you can consult the following link https://www.fws.gov/refuges/visit/federal-recreational-lands-pass.html addition to the one below)the area can be explored on foot, by car or by bike but the best means to fully experience the swamps remains the boat / canoe
Notes :the area is quite large and also represents a good starting point to explore - time available allowing - the entire Atchafalaya basin.to optimize the times it is preferable to have good planning of the areas to explore or, alternatively, you can rely on specially organized trips.
